Take the opportunity to see the two extremes of the South Island of New Zealand when you visit Christchurch for the 2016 HealthPathways Conference.
Pre-Conference West Coast Tramping Trip
The rain forest landscape of the South Island's West Coast is one of the most unique and untouched environments you can see in the Southern Hemisphere, and its only a few hours drive across the Southern Alps from Christchurch.
Dr Graham McGeoch (Canterbury) and Margie McLeod (Western Victoria) are organising a pre-conference tramping trip to the Lake Kaniere Reserve area, for interested conference delegates and their partners.
The two-day tramp will be a great chance to see the West Coast bush first hand and gain some space to clear your thoughts before the conference. Download the brochure for full tramping and accommodation details.
If you are interested in this trip, email Graham McGeoch: mcgeochg@gmail.com or Margie McLeod: Margie.McLeod@westvicphn.com.au as soon as possible.
Christchurch Avon River Red Zone - Guided Walk
There's no greater contrast to the pristine rain forest of the West Coast than the urban jungle of Christchurch's Red Zone following the 2011 earthquakes. Fortunately, there's a strong contingent leading the revitalisation of this area as part of the Greening the Red Zone movement founded by Streamliners staffer Ashley Campbell.
This two-hour guided walk of the Avon River Red Zone will show you first hand the impact of the earthquakes, how it's being brought back to life, and the plan for how it could be turned into an urban park the envy of cities around the world - see the Local Attractions page for more details.
If you are interested in taking this tour, email Ashley Campbell: ashley.campbell@streamliners.co.nz.
Other activities
These tours are just two of the many activities and attractions available to conference delegates while they visit Christchurch.
