Workshops deliver key insights for editors, admins, and managers

There was something for everyone during the first workshops on day one of the 2016 HealthPathways Conference.

After lunch, delegates from Group A split off into four 90 minute workshops held in the Great Hall and Tower Room. They got to choose from four workshops, facilitated by experts that represent the breadth of skills and activities that go into making a great HealthPathways programme.

Clinical editors looking to improve in their core role went to Great Hall A to engage with three of Canterbury’s most experienced clinical editors and the leader of the Streamliners technical writing team.

An overview of pathway reviewing was followed up with a look at the various elements that go into successful clinical editing by HealthPathways Chief Clinical Editor Dr Graham McGeoch, Senior Clinical Editor Dr Denise Nicholson, and HealthPathways Writing Team Manager Melissa Taylor. They were also joined by Dr Caroline Ainsley, who talked about her experience as a clinical editor for Canterbury Hospital HealthPathways.

Project managers and administrators with an eye on judging the impact of their HealthPathways programmes chose to join members of the Evaluation Advisory Group in Great Hall B as they discussed evaluation methods and tips, and the latest research.

Meanwhile, in Great Hall C, Canterbury Initiative Education Facilitator Karlene Ward and Streamliners Chief Executive Ian Anderson discussed the results of the pre-conference survey on HealthPathways’ relationship with general practice education, and the opportunities to share HealthPathways education know-how and resources across the community.

And finally, in the Tower Room, delegates had the chance to talk about ways of integrating HealthPathways with other systems, like e-referrals. This session, which was refreshingly accessible to community members with no technical knowledge, saw Dr Kieran Holland, Streamliners Clinical Lead – HealthPathways Design and Strategy, draw on the work of the Technical Integration Advisory Group.
